Rabbits and Heat

The Rabbit Advocates Communications and Education Team put together several tips for keeping your bunnies cool as the temperature starts to surge. Our friends at Special Bunny Org want to remind everybun that heatstroke can be a life-threatening emergency to bunnies, but it can be prevented.

Signs to look out for:

  • Fast, shallow breathing

  • Hot ears

  • Listlessness

  • Wetness around the nose area

  • Tossing back of head while breathing rapidly from open mouth.

Other than taking the preventive measures listed in the slides, please be proactive if you are without a/c or in case your power goes out, start making arrangements now with a friend or family member to take the buns, or book a hotel room in advance. Have a Bunny Go-Bag ready.
